London – As more consumers than ever demand ethical clothing and accessories for which animals weren’t beaten, slaughtered, or skinned—as well as materials that are kinder to the environment—PETA U.K.’s 2017 Fashion Awards are recognizing the celebrities, luxury labels, and independent designers making a statement for animals.

This year’s winners include singer Zayn Malik, whose Versus Versace collection took home the Collaboration Award for its vegan “eco-leather” statement pieces, and H&M, which nabbed the Red Carpet Dress Award for its custom BIONIC dress, made from recovered shoreline waste, worn by vegan actor Rooney Mara to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Gucci landed the Biggest Fashion Moment award for its monumental decision to drop fur after more than 20 years of PETA protests, while Stella McCartney‘s Elyse won the Best Vegan Shoes award.

“It’s never been more stylish to dress with a conscience,” says PETA U.K. Director Elisa Allen. “Today’s designers are embracing ethical and eco-friendly materials because the future of fashion clearly lies in compassionate clothing.”

Other winners include Matt & Nat for Best Vegan Accessories, Jakke for Best Faux-Fur Brand, Puffa for Best Down-Free Coats, CROP for Best Wool-Free Brand, Veganized World for Best Vegan Slogan T-Shirts, and YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP for Most Progressive Luxury Retailer.
