America’s Voice Recommends a No Vote on the Continuing Resolution

Members of Congress Should Stand with Dreamers

The following is a statement from Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice.

Both Democrats and Republicans have talked about standing up for Dreamers. Now is the time do more than talk the talk; it’s time to walk the walk.

We understand the situation. This crisis, along with many other issues, is likely to be kicked down the road until mid-January. But this vote on this CR will be seen by one and all as a sign of who is prepared to fight for Dreamers.

First and foremost, a yes vote to fund the government without a Dreamer solution is a yes vote for funds that can be used to deport Dreamers. On the other hand, a no vote will increase the leverage of supporters and improve the chances that Congress enacts a sensible resolution of this crisis in January. Finally, a no vote will demonstrate that ‘business as usual’ is giving way to the fierce urgency of now.

We are on the precipice of a decision that will go down in history. We as a nation either stand with Dreamers and formally recognize them as the Americans already are, or our elected leaders fumble and dither their way towards one of the darkest chapters, ever. It’s a time for choosing.
